Unity Homes Review
Summary of Operations & Panelized Home Offerings
Unity Homes is a prefab home builder that designs & builds Scandinavian-inspired farmhouse style homes. They are based in New Hampshire however, their panelized home systems can be assembled by their building crew throughout the Northeastern U.S.
Design Overview
Unity has 5 separate lines of homes, each with several sizes and layouts. Across their 25+ models, they have homes ranging from 586 square foot cottages or studios 2,700+ square foot houses. Their models generally feature the traditional aesthetics of Classic Cape, Bungalow, and Colonial styles with Scandanavian design elements. Though it is worth noting that their Zum model features more contemporary designs.
Build Process & Timeline
Unity Homes use environmentally friendly construction practices - all of their panelized systems are manufactured offsite in their New Hampshire manufacturing facility. All of their homes feature energy-efficient appliances and can be constructed to be NetZero energy - consuming less energy than they produce.
Unity Homes offers two types of home packages: Shell, where Unity provides and assembles the high-performance shell of the home; and Tempo, which includes the shell plus finish materials and fixtures. In both cases, a local builder working directly for the homeowner does the site work and installs the foundation, and finishes the shell inside and out after it’s been assembled.
Factors to Consider
Strengths
Environmentally friendly - homes can easily be built to be net-zero homes
Flexible - The standard designs have a good amount of room for customization with respect to layout
Classic Designs - The Scandinavian-Colonial and Classic Cape are particularly attractive
Predictability - The 3D model and computer-controlled machinery help to ensure predictable costs, schedule, and performance
Reasons they may not be for you
You are located out of their delivery area, which is primarily the Northeast of the U.S.
You’re not able to find a standard Unity design that comes close to meeting your needs
Energy efficiency and high performance are not high priorities for your project
